OUR COMMITMENTS

Our Guiding Principles

Competence means thorough training of all staff, second opinions from CLINIC's immigration attorneys, thorough checking for any immigration or criminal history issues, complete and accurate documentation, and double checking of all applications and petitions before submission.

Caution means complete background checks, accepting only cases which are extremely likely to succeed, and advising clients of the consequences of denial (far fewer than 1% of cases submitted are denied).

Compassion means genuine empathy for the plight of low-income immigrants who often face discrimination, exploitation, and an immigration legal system characterized by high fees, widespread incompetence, and frequent outright fraud.

IMPORTA is dedicated to developing and implementing innocative procedures that use modern technology to realize major efficiencies in the practice of this complex and labor-intensive area of law. This is critical to our long-term survival as an organization that offers top-quality immigration legal services without charge. It requires support from our entire staff, both for their ideas and for their commitment to learning, implementing, and progressively improving our case processing procedures.

IMPORTA's work is based on the belief that Central Coast immigrant communities have a right to honest and high quality immigration legal services as a key part of their full participation in American economic and civic life.

IMPORTA is also dedicated to developing and implementing innocative procedures that use modern technology to realize major efficiencies in the practice of this complex and labor-intensive area of law. This is critical to our long-term survival as an organization that offers top-quality immigration legal services without charge. It requires support from our entire staff, both for their ideas and for their commitment to learning, implementing, and progressively improving our case processing procedures.

We also believe that our legal work needs to be supplemented through cooperation with other non-profits and local government agencies that serve our immigrant communities in areas of health, housing, job training, language skills, and educational advancement.
