Productivity
Thanks to a grant from the State of California, during the past two years IMPORTA has provided legal representation to more DACA, naturalization, and green card applicants than any other provider of legal services in Santa Barbara County.
Professionalism
IMPORTA was the first non-profit organization in Santa Barbara County receive authorization to practice immigration law through trained "Accredited Representatives." These Accredited Representatives have the full backing and counseling of a staff of 15 experienced immigration attorneys from the CLINIC immigration legal network, the largest such organization in the United States.
Guiding Principles
Competence means thorough training of all staff, second opinions from CLINIC's immigration attorneys, thorough checking for any immigration or criminal history issues, complete and accurate documentation, and double checking of all applications and petitions before submission.
Caution means complete background checks, accepting only cases which are extremely likely to succeed, and advising clients of the consequences of denial (far fewer than 1% of of cases submitted are denied).
Compassion means genuine empathy for the plight of low-income immigrants who often face discrimination, exploitation, and an immigration legal system characterized by high fees, widespread incompetence, and frequent outright fraud.
